March 1987

I don't care if your preacher doesn't dress up, you still need to put on a nice dress or nice slacks and a jacket.

If everyone jumped over a cliff, would you follow them! Mom was right!

Quotes

Today a 2-fer ....

"Cows are people, too, and drinking their milk is a denigration of their creaturehood." -PETA

"The generation of random numbers is too important to be left to chance." - Robert R. Coveyou, Oak Ridge National Laboratory

Choices ... choices ...

This is Kaireia at Reed and Audrey's shower figuring out what to eat.

When your stomach is that small, you have to choose carefully.

It's Saturday - have a great weekend!

Falsely accused

I was falsely accused of not knowing my high school fight song, and making up the words you saw yesterday.

When I told the grand-kids - Kaireia was highly amused and Neidon was ready to avenge my honor.

Fortunately, I was able to calm them down, but there were indeed a few tense moments.

Our cheerleader

Here's Kaireia with her trophy for Upward Basketball Cheer leading.

Cheer, Cheer for old Gold and Blue,
Come on team, we’re all proud of you,
We’re all loyal to our High,
Send up a cheer that will reach the sky
Although the odds be great or small,
Old Gold and Blue will win over all,
While our loyal Hounds are fighting
Onward to victory! Rah! Rah!
(Yell after singing school song)
C—C—CAR; M—M—MEL; CAR—MEL
Carmel! Carmel! Carmel!

Swinging into Wednesday

More rain in South Texas. My neighbor is building an ark - is that an omen?

Have a great day.

April 1987

Let's go back twenty years and think about where we were, what we looked like, what our families were like. Our babies have grown and have babies of their own. A few gray hairs have come and a few dark hairs have gone. But I don't think I want to redo it. In fact, what excitement lies ahead, up around the corner ...?

Jer 29:11 (NIV) "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Swinging into Monday

Kaireia says "lets go - this is great!"

Neidon says "are you sure this is safe dad? Is this supposed to be fun?"

Looking back

Cindy and I have been selecting and scanning photos for a slide show to be shown at Reed and Audrey's wedding. It's been fun looking back over the years. I'll probably stick in a few so you all can enjoy as well.

Quote for the week

Contentment consisteth not in adding more fuel, but in taking away some fire. -Thomas Fuller (1608-1661)

Kick back and relax

It's Saturday - kick back and relax. You can color or just soak your feet - or even both!

Hey - take a load off your feet and enjoy!!

Help!

Yep Neidon, I keep telling you sisters are like having another mom!

Give in to the force, don't fight it.

Speaks for itself ....

A different drummer

"If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away" - Henry David Thoreau

In other words, don't believe everything your sister tells you - trust me!

Time for church

It's Sunday, time for church!

Comb your hair, put on your best clothes and get going.

And I mean everybody! (Well, maybe not your goat or your dog!)

This week's Quote

"If I were two-faced, would I be wearing this one?" -Abraham Lincoln

It's Saturday!!

Saturday's are great - you can relax at home in your underwear and do anything you want. I like to pull out my watercolors and just relax and sketch and paint.

Like grandpa, like grandson.

Hips hooray for Friday!

Whew ....

We're all alone, let's crash.

Rachel sent some Easter photos yesterday. Isn't this a handsome dude!

(She said she couldn't get Neidon and Kaireia together long enough to take one group shot!)

Think

I hope you realize my last post was to make you think. I heard some of those titles in a sermon recently. The point was to make you think about the words you DO say when you sing those songs.

Have a blessed day!

New praise songs

I've considered changing some of the old hymns and updating them for this new post-modern crowd to whom we're supposed to be reaching. After many hours of working on them, I need you to let me know what you think before I put out my new CD. Here are a few of the titles, you probably will remember the tunes ...

(As a rule) I'll Generally Follow Jesus

I Surrender 95%

Where He Leads Me, I'll Usually Follow

Take My Wife And Let Me Be

Actually the last one is the best. If you sing the song and change out that one word, it does have a different flair.

It's a Girl!

"Yes Neidon, you heard right."

Your mommy is going to have another girl!

We got the news yesterday and we are so excited!!

Johnny Hart

You probably noticed that Johnny Hart died Saturday. A cartoonist who became a Christian, his cartoon strip often reflected Christ and was often published in the face of ridicule and scorn.

Johnny Hart - February 18, 1931 to April 7, 2007.

My little helper

This is usually where Grandma (Cindy) sits when she joins me in my office. Kaireia was my helper when she visited a few months ago. I wish she was sitting there right now giving me some advice.

Homework

"Hey Brian, are you working on your homework in there on the computer?"

"Uh ..., sure Mom! Well ... kinda. (I am on the computer)"

"Wow - that's great - that's so ... so... Unreal!"

Quote of the week

Since I've been working on a quote for Reed's wedding, I've been in a quote mood. So I think I'm going to try to continue with a weekly quote. Here's is the quote for this week ...

"I have always wanted to be somebody, but I see now I should have been more specific." - Lily Tomlin

Loco

I googled "Southerner" and this photo came up.

So what does that mean?

Color in the lines

Uh, grandpa ... what are you drawing?

Maybe you should just watch while I draw.

Responses

Here's what I have so far ...

"This looks like Snoopy's Christmas Tree.....coming from Mother Nature!!!!"

"Hi, I'm Larry and I'm Daryl and this is our other brother Daryl!"

Keep them coming!!

Hmmmm...

Okay, this is without doubt a strange photo. I'm not really sure what they're doing to this cactus.

Please help me out and send me your idea of what's going on. I'll post your responses.

New door mat?

I've been thinking about getting a new door mat. What do you think of this one? Too nice?

Blast from the past

Reed and Grandma about a year ago in Arizona.

A fun time was had by all.

Spellin'

Kaireia loves to spell out words. She spelled and wrote out her name for me and was checking out other words as well when she was here visiting.

I M-I-S-S her.
